4 1/2 years ago my fiance and I adopted 2 little kittens from Lost Dog and Cat Rescue. The 2 kittens named Jane and Nathan were brother and sister. Jane was a beautiful little puffy kitten with sable like fur. Nathan was a disheveled little guy with 3 stray white whiskers from his chin that looked like a go-tee and one eye that was smaller than the other. Both little sweeties adjusted to life at their new home as if they were born there. They have been the best confidants, electric blankets and secret keepers any human could ever ask for!
3 weeks ago our life was turned on its axis when we lost our dear sweet Nathan. He had been sick and the vet was treating him for irritable bowl syndrome. In the week leading up to his death he had lost his appetite and just was not the same agreeable friendly little guy. The medicine he was one didn’t seem to be helping him anymore. We took him to the vet and she thought he had an ulcer. She gave him fluids and we thought once we treated the ulcer he would be okay. It turned out that the ulcer actually was cancer. He had a tumor that consumed 40% of stomach. We ultimately found out that he had lymphoma and the cancer had spread to his organs. He really had no fighting chance. We had no fighting chance. Nothing we could do would help us protect him. He was genetically predisposed to this nightmare.
I am just now actually starting to believe I will never see him run to the door when I come home or wake up in the middle of the night to a “Nathan hat” (he liked to sleep wrapped around your head like a halo). Even though we only had 4 1/2 years with him he has left us with a lifetime of memories. I thought I would share one of those memories with you all.
